Our History:
P. Leo Corcoran, a partner in the real estate firm John M. Corcoran & Company, founded Caritas Communities as a nonprofit, nonsectarian organization in 1985. At that time the number of homeless people in Greater Boston had increased in record numbers. Mr. Corcoran organized a Board of Directors that included professionals in the real estate and construction industries who shared his belief that homelessness could be prevented.
From the beginning, Caritas has focused its efforts on preventing homelessness and stabilizing neighborhoods by providing affordable housing for the working poor. Starting with our first 11 room property in Dorchester, we now own 25 buildings throughout Greater Boston with over 600 rooms.
