Our Mission

At Caritas Communities, we provide very low-income individuals with permanent housing, support, a sense of community and expanded opportunities. For more than 30 years, Caritas has helped fill the need for safe, secure housing in Greater Boston.

Caritas is Proud to Provide

Our Numbers Tell the Story  In 2014, we surveyed our residents. The results are a stark summary of the challenges faced by individuals who are not able to make a living wage.

Have experienced homelessness at some point in their lives.
Are unemployed citing that they are either retired, looking for work or disabled/unable to work.
The median length of stay in a Caritas room.
Were homeless immediately prior to living at Caritas.

Earn less than $15,000 annually—mainly in service sector jobs (cooks, security guards, retail clerks.

Plan to stay several years, or as long as possible.

Awards and Recognition

2015 – Commonwealth of Massachusetts Governor’s Citation
Presented in recognition of 30 years of dedicated, communal effort to end homelessness.

2012 – Massachusetts Housing and Shelter Alliance Cornerstone Award
Presented to Caritas Executive Director Mark Winkeller for his work in laying the foundation for housing as the solution to homelessness. Read More »
